For You Are With Me
Understanding that Jesus is with me no matter what, is huge. As someone with 71 years of life experience, it is at the foundation of what I believe.
My recent fall at home left me on the floor for two hours waiting for my husband to return. Yes, I was in pain. I didn’t know it at the time, but that fall had basically destroyed my right shoulder. Concerned I might have a concussion; I was determined to stay awake and didn’t realize till later I also had a small brain bleed. I prayed all sorts of prayers talking to Jesus pleading for help. Don’t laugh, but I even prayed that while at his therapeutic yoga class, my husband would become ill and return home early. Yelling for my neighbors on either side was useless, they were not home.
I was completely helpless.
My mind wandered through the words of Psalm 23, and even though I was walking through the darkest valley, I was not afraid. I knew that Jesus was with me as I laid on that hard floor unable to move. His rod and staff comforted me. Certain if I didn’t make it, I would dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
I don’t know why this accident happened. Beats me. My life was rocking along pretty good, my first book had just been released on May 5th, I was enjoying working with my writing coach handling his calendar and emails, attending my weekly writer’s class, and developing an idea for my second book. Then I did a face plant on the floor. Don’t ask me how it happened, because in just a split second I went down. I speculate my sneaker caught the mat by the door. My cell phone was in my right pocket, and my left hand could not reach it, and no matter how much I yelled for that little woman in the cell phone to call for help, she didn’t respond. Yes, now I wear an Apple Watch. I actually told my physical therapist it was an old people’s watch and he corrected me and said oh no, it’s very techy. That made me feel so much better, ha-ha.
The point is that Gods Word is true and applies to our lives each and every day. It is sustaining no matter what we are facing. Whether we are coping with an injury, serious illness like cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, the loss of a loved one, financial problems, no matter what we face He is with us.
This is a promise. An important one. May we all embrace those words. He is with me.
