Desiring to write a book led me to search for help from a writing coach, and between God and Google, I found Jeff Miller.
It kind of started with my cousin Nancy who was taking a writing class. She told her instructor about my adoption story and how I found my birth family. The teacher told her it wasn’t hers to tell, “That’s Roxanne’s story to tell”.
In the beginning I had no idea where to start. I began to learn that I needed to focus on sharing my heart and story; and yes, we all have a story. Have you ever considered writing about your life, faith or experiences? What you have been through has shaped you into the person you are today. God can even use our stories to encourage and inspire others.
Working with Jeff then progressed to taking his amazing writing course, teaching me how to develop a core message and readers promise, and to organize thoughts and ideas using an outline to map out the structure of the book.
A wonderful benefit resulting from taking the course was the community that has evolved over time. Our Christian writing community meets online weekly providing encouragement for one another and giving us a platform for feedback on our writing. Jeff and his team of coaches give us guidance, sharing their expertise as we refine our writing pieces.
My goal this year is to publish my book with Indie Christian Book. Jeff has assembled a wonderful team of editors, graphic designers, and marketing professionals who will help make my book a reality. A book that will not only share my unique story, but those of other adoptees, siblings, adoptive parents and birth mothers. You will quickly recognize the common thread within all of them.
Just like me, most people don’t know how to start writing their book. But I have good news, because help is just around the corner. A free event about writing is coming next week! Jeff will be sharing what he has learned over the years about writing and publishing a book. This type of webinar often costs several hundred dollars, but this 5-night live webinar is absolutely free.
